FireMathLab

Editorial policy

What you can expect from anything published here, and how mistakes get handled.

Who writes it

Everything on this site is written and reviewed by Jobi at BrightScale Labs. There is no content team and no outsourced writing. Articles carry a named author and a last-updated date, and if that date is old the article has not been re-checked since.

How claims are handled

  • Every worked example is computed by the tool it describes. The numbers in an article come from running the calculator on this site, not from an illustration written to sound plausible.
  • Where a rule of thumb comes from is stated. The 4% rule, Guyton-Klinger guardrails and the spending smile are attributed to the research they came from, along with the horizon or population that research assumed.
  • Limitations are part of the article, not a disclaimer. Every tool page carries a β€œwhen this is wrong” section, and it is written before the marketing copy.

Where AI is used, and where it is not

The in-app explainer uses a language model to describe what your numbers mean in plain English. It is constrained to explain, never advise: it may say what a 3.5% withdrawal rate implies about your target, and it may not suggest that you change it, buy anything, or take any action.

For published articles, AI may assist with drafting and structure, but every figure, formula and claim is verified against the engines documented on the methodology page before publication. Nothing is published unreviewed.

Advertising and independence

The site carries advertising to keep the tools free, and ads may appear on any page where ad policy permits it. Three rules keep that separate from the content:

  • Advertisers have no input into what is published or how a tool works.
  • No advertiser receives your financial figures. Nothing you enter is used to target advertising, and none of it is sold.
  • There are no affiliate links inside the calculators, and no product, platform or fund is recommended anywhere on the site.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, it gets fixed rather than quietly left. A correction that changes a number or a conclusion is noted on the page with the date it changed. Report anything you spot to hello@firemathlab.com; being told the maths is wrong is more useful than being told it is good.

What this site is not

FireMathLab publishes educational material and modelling tools. It is not a regulated financial adviser and does not provide personal recommendations. For decisions that matter, take these outputs to someone qualified to advise on your circumstances.
